In low voltage distribution system, usually two solutions for the power factor correction: capacitor bank and static var generator.

Low Voltage Capacitor Bank

The load current provided by the grid to the electrical equipment is composed of active current and reactive current. The reactive current is exchanged between the power supply and the load, which greatly occupies the grid, greatly reduces the power supply capacity of the power supply equipment, and reduces the power factor.

The capacitive reactive current generated by the low-voltage capacitor bank panel quickly and accurately tracks and offsets the inductive reactive current in the grid, thereby improving the power factor, ensuring the quality of power consumption, improving the power supply capacity of power supply equipment, and reducing losses in the circuit.

The low-voltage capacitor compensation cabinet is composed of cabinet shell, busbar, circuit breaker, switching switch, capacitor, reactor, arrester, secondary wire, terminal block, automatic power factor compensation controller, instrument, etc.

Generally, the selection of low voltage capacitor bank depends on system condition.

  • System load changes relatively stable, its suggested to use contactor switch.
  • System load changes frequently and quickly, its suggested to use thyristor switch.
  • System harmonic is not serious, its suggested capacitor bank without reactor.
  • System harmonic is serious, its suggested capacitor bank with reactor.

Low Voltage Static Var Generator

Static Var Generator, referred to as SVG. Also known as dynamic reactive power compensation generator, or static synchronous compensator. It refers to a device for dynamic reactive power compensation by a power semiconductor bridge converter with free phase commutation. SVG is currently the best solution in the field of reactive power control. Compared with traditional condensers, capacitors/reactors, and traditional SVC mainly represented by thyristor-controlled reactors (TCR), SVG has incomparable advantages.
