How to realize the Statcom connect to high voltage?
Apr 25,2024

To connect a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) to a high voltage system, you need to follow a series of steps and ensure compliance with safety regulations:

System Design: Determine the appropriate rating and configuration of the STATCOM based on the requirements of the high voltage system. Consider factors such as voltage level, reactive power compensation, and system stability.

Equipment Procurement: Source the necessary equipment for the STATCOM installation, including voltage source converter (VSC), reactors, capacitors, control system, cooling system, and other auxiliary equipment. Ensure that the equipment meets the specifications and standards for high voltage applications.

Site Preparation: Prepare the installation site by clearing the area and providing suitable infrastructure, such as foundations, grounding systems, and cable trenches. Make sure the site complies with safety and environmental requirements.

Electrical Connections: Establish electrical connections to connect the STATCOM to the high voltage system. This typically involves connecting the VSC to the high voltage grid through power transformers, reactors, and circuit breakers. Follow appropriate electrical engineering practices, considering circuit protection, insulation coordination, and grounding.

Control System Integration: Integrate the STATCOM control system with the existing high voltage control network. Ensure compatibility and seamless communication with the high voltage system's supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) or distributed control system (DCS). Configure control parameters for steady-state and dynamic operation.

Commissioning and Testing: Perform comprehensive commissioning and testing of the STATCOM installation. This includes functional testing, protection system testing, communication testing, and performance evaluation. Adhere to safety protocols during testing and obtain necessary permits and clearances from local electricity regulatory bodies.

Operational Monitoring and Maintenance: Once the STATCOM is successfully connected to the high voltage system, establish a routine monitoring and maintenance program. Regularly monitor the system's performance and operation, conduct diagnostics, and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations.

Note: The process of connecting a STATCOM to a high voltage system can be complex, and it requires expertise in electrical engineering and compliance with specific regulations and standards. It is advisable to consult with experienced professionals or specialized companies in power system engineering to ensure a safe and efficient installation.

We will connect 35kV Static Var Generator and 35kV/400kV step up transformer to realize 400kV Statcom.
